About Us
Love God. Love Neighbor. Live Out the Bible. Teach Others the Same.

Common Beliefs
These basic beliefs represent what we believe to be core elements of biblical teaching. All who consider themselves a part of The Mon Valley Church adhere to these beliefs. These beliefs are common to Christians churches throughout the centuries, because of that some of the vocabulary below may be a bit difficult. For help in understanding what we mean by each of these statements, please click here.

1. We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God.

2. We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

3. We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in his virgin birth, in his sinless life, in his miracles, in his vicarious and atoning death through his shed blood, in his bodily resurrection, in his ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in his personal return in power and glory.

4. We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful people, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential.

5. We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enable to live a godly life.

6. We believe that Jesus Christ is returning to the world in future to judge the living and the dead.

7. We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.

Common Practices

These basic beliefs represent what we believe to be core elements of biblical teaching on how we should live. All who consider themselves a part of The Mon Valley Church commit to live in this way.
1. Love God. Love Neighbor. We recognize only two laws for all of Christian life and conduct. The first law is to love God with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength. The second law is like the first and is to love our neighbor as ourselves. By “Neighbor” we mean all of mankind which includes family, friends, associates, strangers, and even enemies.
2. Obey the Word. The chief expression of our love of God will be obedience to his Word as chiefly modeled and taught by Jesus Christ and recorded in the Old and New Testaments.
3. Make Disciples. Help the Needy. The chief expression of our love of neighbor will be to make disciples and help the needy. We spend our lives teaching others to love God and love neighbor and to live such generous lives that all who interact with us will know that we are a people who love.
4. Practical Love. Our love will overflow into a practical and real expression of love in our behaviors. Love will show itself in the great wisdom by which we live, the purity of our behaviors, the kindness in our speech, and a generosity in all we do and say. We will take seriously biblical teaching on all areas of practical life as binding for how we are to express love. We will allow the Bible to supersede all of our own cultural and personal norms for behavior.
5. Inner Character. Our outer actions will reflect our inner habit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, and self-control. We refuse to be a people who show kindness but secretly hold to selfishness, self-righteousness, and self-importance.
6. Witness. Our insistence on and obsessive practice of all these things will let the world know that we belong to Jesus who came to serve and not be served, to give and not receive, and to die on a cross so we could live. We, like him, will make love the one and only aim of our lives.
Small Church First
We are a church composed of many smaller Community Churches. These Community Churches form the basis of our whole church. Each Community Church functions as a real and fully empowered church but associate together to form The Mon Valley Church.

We believe that every follower of Jesus should be expected, encouraged, and trained to go and make disciples. That means everyone should be taught and empowered to baptize new disciples, gather those disciples together into a church, and to teach those disciples to obey everything that Jesus commanded. We call these gatherings Community Churches.

The Community Church
Each Community Church has its own flavor and but they all share the following characteristics:
Participatory in nature- We focus on creating environments where everyone can participate and contribute to the functioning and health of their church. Among other things, this means that our teaching times are typically built around structured conversation and discussion rather than sermons.
Obedience to the Bible- We focus on what the Bible says and calls us to do. Traditions or the opinions of any particular teacher must sit beneath that of the Bible. Once we learn what the Bible says, we take seriously our need to actually live it out.
Unpaid or Ordinary Leaders- Our church is built on the volunteer leadership of ordinary people just like you. Each Community Church has at least two leaders who are trained to guide their church into a life of love following Jesus. These Community Church leaders are normal people with normal jobs and normal lives who have decided they want to help others to follow Jesus.
Certain positions within our church do offer compensation, but these positions are limited and the goal of these positions is to multiply and empower other leaders, not to provide some religious service.
Cell Churches– Each Community Church is a real church, but also a cell of a larger church, The Mon Valley Church. They have the authority and responsibility to baptize, practice communion, teach, send missionaries, appoint leaders, and more. But they also have the support, training, oversight, and mentoring provided by The Mon Valley Church.
Homes and Other Common Meeting Places- Our Community Churches meet in homes, coffee shops, and other common meeting places throughout the area. This keeps our resources focused on helping people not managing real-estate. Large group meetings are less frequent and generally in shared spaces.

We are a church composed of many smaller churches, so our leadership structure reflects this.

Community Church Leader
Every Community Church has at least two leaders and has as its aims to raise up, train, and send out more leaders to start yet more Community Churches.

Network Leaders
Every Community Church is a part of a Network which provides support, mentoring, and oversight. Community Church Leaders within a Network join together to form a leadership team for their Network.

The Leadership Team
The Networks join together to form The Mon Valley Church. Each Network appoints a leader to serve the broader church. These leaders, together with the Lead Pastor form The Mon Valley Leadership Team. This team is tasked with overseeing the health, growth, and direction of the entire Mon Valley Church.

No Place Left
We are a part of an association called No Place Left which aims to multiply disciples until there is no place left where Jesus is not known. This association provide mentoring for our lead pastor and other key leaders plus support and training to our church as a whole. You can learn more about this
association at noplaceleft.net.
